Katikkiro Highlights the Importance of Journalists’ Work
Owek. Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, together with Owek. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, posed for a group photo with journalists accredited to Mengo. Journalists from various media outlets were recognized by the Kingdom through their annual accreditation program overseen by the Ministry of Information. Katikkiro Mayiga attended the event and reminded accredited journalists at Mengo of the importance of their work, urging them to take it seriously. “You must understand the value of your work. These days, the significance of journalism has increased because of the digital age, but technology has no conscience. Anyone can speak or write anything irresponsibly, and people rely on trusted journalists for accurate information. You must fulfill your duties diligently,” Katikkiro Mayiga said. While journalism comes with many challenges, the Katikkiro praised those performing their duties well and called on everyone to execute their responsibilities on time, respecting the profession and avoiding the dissemination of harmful information. He further commended the dedication of journalists reporting on Kingdom affairs, adding: “I sincerely appreciate all of you covering Kingdom news. When we do many things, the world may not know, but we remain transparent. Truly, we do a lot of work, and as Omuganda says, one must deliver… We want the public to follow Kingdom matters closely. By sharing accurate news, you help us greatly.” The Buganda Minister of Information, Community Engagement, and Kingdom Spokesperson, Owek. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, also praised journalists for their service this year, noting that they operate with professionalism and do not rely on the instructions of Kingdom officials during public events.
