The Katikkiro speaks on the importance of education in shaping our perspectives and deepening our understanding
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, emphasised that education should open minds and help people understand their culture and traditions:
“The education we receive should open our eyes and help us understand that what we believe in is neither inferior nor evil. Circumstances change over time, and traditions have always evolved—not because they are inferior, but to adapt to the prevailing conditions.”
Katikkiro made this statement while urging people to clearly differentiate between cultural values, traditions, and the practices that uplift their standards of living, without compromising their dignity as Baganda.
He reaffirmed that traditions should not be regarded as outdated but rather refined to align with modern realities.
