The Kabaka’s Birthday Run 2025 has been officially launched, marking the 12th edition since its inception in 2014. This year’s run is dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS and is scheduled to take place on April 6, 2025.

Buganda’s Prime Minister (Katikkiro), Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, presided over the launch event held at Bulange, where he welcomed various partners supporting the initiative. In his address, Katikkiro urged the government to prioritize efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the significant impact of the disease in Uganda.

"If out of every four people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, one is Ugandan, that is alarming. The government must intensify its commitment to fighting this disease," Owek. Mayiga stated.

He also encouraged men to remain actively involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS while advising women to take necessary precautions and get tested regularly.

Additionally, he called on schools, religious institutions, and civil society organizations to purchase the official run kits in advance, noting that only 20,000 shirts remain available.

HIV/AIDS Situation in Uganda

UNAIDS representative Dr. Sarah Nakku presented statistics showing that out of every 100 people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, four are Ugandan. She expressed concern over the potential impact of reduced funding from the United States in the fight against the disease, warning that this could lead to a worsening situation.

The Kabaka’s Birthday Run 2025 is set for April 6, and participants are encouraged to secure their kits early before they run out.
