Hon. Joseph Kawuki addressing the Kabaka’s subjects
The Buganda Minister for Local Government, Royal Tours, and Buganda Affairs Abroad, Hon. Joseph Kawuki, has encouraged Baganda living in the diaspora to establish a deliberate daily routine to teach and strengthen Buganda’s culture and traditions among children and youth.
He stressed that this must be done intentionally so that the children and grandchildren of Buganda grow up prepared to preserve, protect, and develop their homeland with full understanding of their identity.
Hon. Kawuki made these remarks in the city of East London, in the Eastern Cape County of Cape Province, South Africa, where he officiated at the celebration of County Day.
During the event, he also launched the county structures of Eastern Cape, Western Cape, and the committee of the Abaana ba Buganda Association, led by Mr. Levinson Kiggundu.
He urged leaders to be dependable and trustworthy so they can fulfill the responsibilities placed upon them. He further cautioned the Kabaka’s subjects about individuals who attempt to undermine the Kingdom through ridicule, advising them to think carefully about every issue and not react to every rumor they hear.
Hon. Kawuki also encouraged the Kabaka’s representatives to strengthen their income-generating activities so they can sustain themselves in the countries where they serve while contributing to the development of Buganda, their homeland.

The Cape Province County Chief, Hon. Dennis Lugoloobi, revealed that the fundraising initiative they were guided to start is already yielding results, with two development projects currently in progress.
“There are not two separate associations. Under Buganda Twezimbe, we managed to purchase land in Western Cape – Endovern at Rand 400,000, and we are preparing to develop it. The women have also raised Rand 2,000,000, which they plan to invest,” he noted.
He encouraged newly elected leaders to continue promoting Buganda’s priorities among people at all levels.
The Eastern Cape County Chief, Loyda Kateregga, emphasized that unity has grown stronger, and meetings are now conducted both physically and online, enabling people from various cities to participate actively in Kingdom programs.
The Chairperson of Abaana ba Buganda Eastern Cape, Mr. Levinson Kiggundu, stated that the association has gained momentum and is no longer struggling, affirming their commitment to continue working hard to restore Buganda to its rightful top position.
The ceremony was attended by the Western Cape county leader Mariam Nandyosse Kavuma, Buganda association leaders in South Africa including James Kamya Kasookaboogera of Baanabakintu from Gauteng, and more than 200 Kabaka’s subjects.
