Buganda Kingdom has partnered with the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) to promote agriculture through research and provide technical advice to farmers in Buganda.
BUCADEF Executive Director Mr Robert Musenze signed on behalf of the kingdom, while Jona Baguma, signed on behalf of NARO.
Katikkiro said NARO will help spread the word about modern farming that is more efficient and science-based to enable the farmer to get the most out of their crops.
In addition, He said the most industries in a country like Uganda are those based on someone's occupations and it is an advantage that people now have farming as an occupation.
Hon. Kakomo stated that the alliance comes at a time when the kingdom is in the process of revamping the economy of the people, especially in the emmwanyi terimba programme.
The Kingdom has pledged to provide NARO with various learning centres in the provinces where they will teach people modern farming.
Yona Baguma, Executive Director of the NARO, highlighted the various benefits of coffee crops as per research, including, perfumes, ointments, powders, facial scrub, and fertilizers.
He added that the focus will be on encouraging people to engage in shallow cultivation of crops including, ejjobyo, Nakati, ebigaaga, ettimpa, and livestock breeding, as these have been found to be very commercial and have the nutrients that everyone needs.
