The Buganda Kingdom is mourning the passing of Oweek. Agnes Nabulya Nkugwa, who was a representative in the Buganda Parliament and head of the Women's Department in Ssingo County.

In a message delivered by the Minister of Local Government,Royal Travels and Buganda Kingdom Affairs Abroad, Oweek. Joseph Kawuki, during the burial of the late Agnes Nabulya Nkugwa in Lubanja Central, Mityana, Ssingo, the Katikkiro urged Baganda to prioritize their health.

He advised people to undergo regular medical checkups even when they feel well, emphasizing the importance of early disease detection.

Kamalabyonna praised the late Nabulya as a dedicated servant of Buganda, a people-centered leader, and a person of integrity who was unwavering in her commitment to the kingdom.

The funeral service was led by the Bishop of Mityana, Rt. Rev. James Bukomeko Ssalongo, who expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths, often leaving families and properties in distress.

The Minister for Welfare, Environment, and Gender, Oweek. Hajjat Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo, conveyed a message from the Buganda Parliament, recognizing the late Nkugwa’s contributions to the kingdom, her diplomacy in discussions, her composed leadership, and the respect she extended to her fellow members.

On behalf of the clan elders, Omutaka Ssenabulya Juma Kiseyeye of the Leopard (Ngo) Clan, to which the late Nkugwa belonged, praised her unwavering dedication to her clan. He acknowledged her efforts in promoting clan development, particularly at their ancestral grounds in Buteesaasira.

The late Agnes Nabulya Nkugwa was born on November 26, 1960, and passed away at the age of 65.

Earlier this month, she actively participated in various Buganda Kingdom events, including the celebration of Buganda Children’s Day on January 12 at the Lubiri in Mmengo and the Ssingo Women’s Ceremony at the end of December in Ssingo.

During the latter event, in her capacity as the chairperson of Ssingo Women's Association, she urged parents to monitor what their children engage with on social media, warning that inappropriate online content has been a source of many societal problems.
